Auto Add Request

Hi there, I have done a search in this forum and nothing has come up so I hope I am not doubling up...... my issue is every time I log into yahoo messenger I have an add request from a particular user. I have no idea who this person is so I always deny the add request but every time I log out of messenger and log back in, the add request is there again. I think this is an auto add request because if I log out and log back in 5 times in a row, each time I log back in the request is there again. It is so frustrating, does anyone know what is going on and how I can stop it? Could this be a bot? I have contacted yahoo and they have told me to just ignore this user which I have done but still the add request comes up every time I log onto yahoo messenger. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Next time I will try to be nicer if you try to be smarter.

Send a message via Yahoo to rafaelemt
A few weeks ago I saw a similar thread here concerning this annoying auto add request. The suggestion given to the person in order to solve this situation was to add the person to the messenger list, inmediately add it to the ignore list and then remove it from your messenger list. It worked for that particular case. Maybe you should give it a try. Let us know if it works.

I thought about doing that but what if as soon as I add the "person" it takes control of my messenger and starts messing with contacts etc....

Netti will become famous soon enough (50)
Send a message via Yahoo to Netti
This is probably part of a boot or spamming program. They send you multiple add request packets over and over again. You will continue to get them until the packets are finished sending.

However, when you click Deny, are you putting them on ignore?

And yes you can definately add them, then remove them, however, unless you also remove yourself from their list, your name will be on their list.

As detmot said - someone can not take over your name or computer, unless you allow them to. That means DO NOT click on any links... DO NOT download any files from anyone, and DO NOT install anything that you haven't scanned first.

However, just adding or removing someone, or pm'ing with someone, etc. does not allow them into your computer.

Thought I would add somemore info to this problem. I have tried to block and to add this 'auto add me' user with the results being the same. The 'auto add me' only appears on one computer and only one screen name is affected. I can use the problematic screen name on a different machine and there is no 'auto add me'. I have removed and re -installed yahoo..same problem. Manually wiped yahoo registry files ans changed the ip address on the machine..it still occurs. Any thoughts on where else to look and what to look for?

Thank you to those who responded to my question.... I finally got rid of the never ending add request by upgrading yahoo and I also found in YTunnel under preferences there is an option for not accepting add requests from unknown users.
