Yahoo messenger 8 has a spam filter.

I logged two computers in a bot filled room one with messenger 7.5 and one with messenger 8.
The computer with 7.5 was being bombarded with spam pms, as the computer with messenger 8 only got a few.

Reporting spam must have paid-off. If you see spam report it!!!

Yahoo need to offer Spam Filters locally like clients

They are getting there, as you said about the ignore, in chat it is now local ignoring. (about time)

now we want local adjustable filter system (wildcards, regular expressions)

i noticed they changed the way the ad works on the bottom of the buddylist.

will look into killing it and update ad destroy.

No, the names are stored on-line, not on your computer. You will lose your archives though, unless you go and copy the folder and move it somewhere else, then after re-installed, you go place it back.

I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said I was being ridiculous - everyone hasn't met me yet.

No you will not loose your
IM friends,
people on your ignore list,
people on your allways view your cam box, and
Stealth settings for all friends

all that is saved

If you want to do a clean uninstall, after you do a normal uninstall, See below
it will still not affect the things above.
Not recommended if you don't feel comptable doing it. Don't touch anything else in the regedit file.
You might have to restart computer first.

Delete the Messenger directory C -> program-files -> Yahoo! -> Messenger <- this will delete Archives.
Next
Go to "C -> Windows -> regedit" Next once your in the program,
Click on "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/
And delete Yahoo! at the end of the list of programs.

It was a real PITA to install. The installer "seemed" like it froze on 95% completion, yet when I killed the task, it still was installed properly..

Either way, it seems like it is more stable, just a HUGE resource pig. And I have to admit that the ad REALLY stands out!

I guess that depends on the user.
A lot of software tells you to uninstall old versions before installing new versions. some software does it automatically and some software will give warnings if you don't uninstall.

Its just you can get bugs in yahoo, becouse files could get corrupt when you do that, and keys in the registry.

I always do a clean uninstall whenever i change versions of Yahoo, but thats me.

Ok I deleted about the smartness.
