Well, just in case anyone wants to know the technecial way of doing this...

If you open YahooMessenger.exe in a hex editor, and search for the text string "enabled" it will give you 11 results. go down to "003981AC" and click on it and rename "enabled" to "disabled" or anything else you want and save it.

I swore you had to match the text with the same number of characters or it'd corrupt the file =/ I'd say anything with 7 letters.

I edited the zip file, it now includes the yahoo.reg and a readme file. The reg file is used to get rid of the rest of the ads other than the contact list ad.

If you use the messenger list ad hack, it appears to break the "headphones" status with Launchcast or HyperIM. It might break other statuses as well.

Yeah i saw that, but 1. my launchcast works whenever the heck it feels like it. 2. i don't see the point of making it clickable if it doesn't even show the whole song when someone clicks it 3. at least it still shows the song like other programs

So i don't miss it, the webcam one still works and so do regular links so i think it's the only one affected.

I told my psychiatrist that everyone hates me. He said I was being ridiculous - everyone hasn't met me yet.

I'm going to try to find an alternate way to disable the ad and keep the status. I'm sure alot of people will be complaining about this.

Ok, sorry to double post but I found a better way to remove the ad in Yahoo 8.0 final without breaking the Launchcast music status.

I'll make an installer later after it's been tested. Consider this a beta...

Instructions:
1. Make sure Yahoo! Messenger is fully closed.
2. Extract this .rar file to C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger (or whatever your default Yahoo directory is) and override the existing YahooMessenger.exe file (Please, make a backup of it first).
3. Restart Yahoo! Messenger and watch the ad disappear and test Launchcast.

If there is any bugs, please report them!

Enjoy!

P.S. I'm thinking about starting a project called YIM Ad Hack (kinda like AIM Ad Hack) that removes the ads in Yahoo! Messenger, and perhaps adds some neat little things.

I updated my patch, fixes the LaunchCast bug, it's available at the same URL. Also I included the "multiyahoo.reg" to patch your Yahoo! Messenger so you can run more than one copy at a time without using a modified yahoomessenger.exe other than the one patched to remove the ad.
