[b]Here's a patch I created to kill the buddy list ad in the Yahoo! Messenger 8.0 Final. Enjoy.

Yea, it's simple really. Change a string "enabled" at 003981A8 in a hex editor to anything you want, and it'll block the ad.

Congrats man, you beat me to it.

Question: does this also "block" advertisements in the chat and chat loading screens?

No, this just blocks the contact list ad, you can use the old registry file to block the rest of the stuff, but even that didn't block the chat loading screen, it did however block the chatroom ad.

I think you can still remove the ads via registry trick...

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\yahoo\pager\YUrl]
"First Login Beacon"="*"
"Tutorials"="*"
"Messenger Help"="*"
"Voice General Help"="*"
"Change Room Banner"="*"
"Address Book"="*"
"Finance Disclaimer"="*"
"Messenger Ad"="*"
"Chat Adurl"="*"
"Calendar Alert Ad URL"="*"
"Conf Adurl"="*"
"Mail Alert Ad URL"="*"
"News Alert Ad URL"="*"
"Personals Alert Ad URL"="*"
"Stock Alert Ad URL"="*"
"Webcam Viewer Ad Medium"="*"
"Webcam Viewer Ad Big"="*"
"Webcam Viewer Ad"="*"
"Webcam Upload Ad"="*"
"Chat Transition Ad"="*"
"N2Phone Adurl"="*"
"Webcam Viewer Ad Bid"="*"
That works better than the original registry ad trick.

Well just run the contact list patch from : http://nikol4s.googlepages.com/Yahoo...gerAdPatch.zip

And the yahoo.reg from: http://nikol4s.googlepages.com/yahoo.reg

I updated my yahoo.reg from king's postings.

The new patch isn't a registry key therefore it isn't just one reg file or anything, it actually has to replace the binary. The reg patch will patch everything else.
