YIM Disconnect Issues
For the past three days... 13 hours of work put into this issue I am left with nothing to show and the problem still remains.
I have been running yahoo instant messenger on my pc for a few years now with no problems. My PC is connected through a cable modem via a cable. I decided to install a new yahoo account onto my laptop. It connects through a cable modem via a wireless connection. Everytime I turn on my laptop and yahoo tries to connect it knocks my PC completely offline and Im unable to get it back online until I shut down yahoo instant messenger on the laptop. I also get an error on my PC that a lan cable has come unpluged.. which it has not. Why is this happening and how can I fix it. I really like yahoo messenger, and I dont understand why this is happening. |

It also seems that this problem extends to some degree to an online game, world of warcraft and msn messenger altho not to the same extent. Those two programs do experience the disconnects from the internet, but do not knock my other pc offline.
So it seems to be some sort of modem issue or network thing. Any suggestions? |

Have you recently updated your Internet Explorer to 7.0 or any programs that would have the ability to interfere with your connection?
After updating to 7.0 IE i also was having some bad reconnect issues specially with Messenger and MSN. Irish Gaming - 1000+ Games and climbing! |

I've had a related(??) problem continuing for the last 3 or 4 weeks - every few hours I seem to get a momentary (less than a minute) disconnect from internet.
Bugging the H*** outa me!! I've had the same broadband connection for over a year with no such problems until recently. It generally occurs when I'm using YM voice conf AND playing a Yahoo Game (either pool, gin, or canasta) - but that's what I do most of the time online anyway! However it occurred yesterday when I didn't have YM open, as I was using Skype voice and Yahoo games, so I figure it's NOT caused by YM. (I'm in progress of checking with my ISP for further clues there, maybe). Dermot, I never considered IE as a possible culprit, but I DID happen to upgrade from IE6 to 7 approximately 3 weeks ago. I guess from what you say I should maybe downgrade back to IE6 (is this possible?!) and see if my problem disappears ? |

I can tell you that the recent disconnects are a wide area problem.
A lot of people have been disconnected from Yahoo! servers for no apparent reason. This has been the case in all clients that connect to the yahoo! network. It's either yahoo have messed up something with the removal of chat 2.0 or they are working on something. Various servers at intervals are just refusing connections after dumping their connections (you get disconnected) I'm sure within time they will fix the issue, to when is up to them.
