Message archive problem

I have some issues with my message archives lately. Every time i try to view them, my messenger either freezes for a few min or completely crashes and needs to be restarted.
First i thought it might be a corrupt file in the archive, so i cleaned it and did a full re-install of yahoo messenger, but the problem still persists.

Any ideas what might cause this and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

When you say a full reinstall is that the full uninstall you did also?

Are you a limited user or computer administrator on the pc?

When you use a third party archive viewer does it show any abnormalities?

Try removing the messenger with Y! Remover then doing a full reinstall after a reboot and when setting your archives have it delete on exit first...then close messenger.

reopen messenger and try opening the archive to see if it opens blank without error then change iit to save all messages and see if it crashes then also.

hey Dermot,

yes i did a full uninstall including registry cleaning and deleting the yahoo folder before i re-installed messenger.
I'm administrator on the pc, and when i try a third party viewer like yahoo message decoder everything is fine.

I will do as you suggested and see if it gets any better

Hopefully you can get the issue resolved.

If it still persists try and jump perhaps a few versions back and see if you have the problem still to try and see if it is a version dependant error/bug.

hey Dermot,

i did as you suggested but the problem still persists, no matter which version i use. Im back on version 7.0.2.120 now.

I wonder if it's maybe a yahoo problem, as i get disconnected very often without any obvious reason lately too (and so do many people on my list).

Yahoo! have been disconnecting and refusing connections the last couple of days on certain servers.

I think perhaps maybe a few things have to be ironed out after the removal of chat 2.0 and ymsg protocol updated.

As for the archive problem, it's strange it works fine on 7 and not 8, was it 8.1 or 8.0 you were using?
