Yahoo won't connect

I just upgraded my yahoo messenger to newest yahoo version 8.1.0.209. Since I did that, have not been able to connect. I am not able to change settings from dial up to cable. I have uninstalled, cleaned registry and re-installed without luck. I even tryed system restore to no avail. I have tryed older version msgr7 and still won't connect. Worked fine before the upgrade. I am running windows xp pro, firewall turned off. Lynksyes router and moterola cable modem, new time warner cable service. 8.1.0.209 Yahoo msgr on other pc works fine and is connected to same router. any help will be appreciated, Jim

Yahoo won't connect

Same thing has happened to me, only it happened while I was still using version 7. So I upgraded to 8 in case that was the problem, but it wasn't. I have not been able to sign-in for a week now, and nothing in IM is accessible. Email to Yahoo Tech Support gets the standard "We're aware of this" but that's all.

I doubt that a company the size of Yahoo can be technically so incompetent. There has to be a commercial reason for this: probably just bandwidth costs.

But whatever it is, Yahoo have forfeited all credibility here now, and I have not been slow to tell my contacts why. We have switched to Skype, which gives us full screen video and a much more reliable connection, and if that goes belly-up too I'll damn well write my own p2p program.

If and when Yahoo ever comes back, I shall copy my encrypted legacy data to ascii files and then dump it for good.

When they were doing maintenance I was unable to log in when other people were getting back on. I had to login with Firewall no proxies to get back in. Once I did that I was able to login, and then changed back to no proxies. Might be worth a try to see if it gets you back in. But don't forget to change it back or voice chat won't work.
