As i said the server chooses if your connection can handle it and swiitches you to it automatically now.
as for the frames part of the top post, frames do not make quality in webcams and more frames a second make it faster and i sure wouldnt like a cam going at 1 single frame a second. Quality of camera image is done to camera and persional video settings on the user side, not frame rates. Webcam frames are individual frames of JPEG images broadcasted from one peer to another and that image does not get beautified in transit so the frames part of the post is wrong. Supercam is basically the same as the ordinary cam option but the increased speed between peers makes for more frames delivery and hence the cam "seems" to move quicker. It's like yahoo have always done for most "buddy" related functions is release them to p2p to free up their servers and this was not a choice on messenger and now they just done the same with super webcam as it will switch to it automatically if both peers support it. its been my experience that the faster the cam ( more frames ) the less quality . I never mentioned anything about quality though . It was about frame rates .Period . Thats all . Superweb cam mode WAS 10 frames per sec .It no longer is . You can no longer get 10 frames per sec .Thats what my point is and has been all along . Supermode as it was known is gone . I appreciate your reply , but all I ever wanted from yahoo or anyone was a definate answer to if it was still possible to go into supermode ,10 frames per sec. . It isnt possible . No more supermode . I'm done with this dang topic !
And thanks for your reply in my p2p post .

I know geetarplyr has finished discussing this thread but I would like to reinterate that what he has experienced is the same as my experience. The Supercam (or whatever you wish to call it), peer-to-peer mode, was transmitting way more frames/sec. In the past, I have had my frame rate go as high as 12 frames/sec. No more. I now get only 1 frame/sec on best quality and 3 frames/sec on fastest. Given that I could achieve this frame rate - both inbound from friends and outbound, something has been changed by Yahoo to choke the frame rate off. What it is, I do not know: I sure wish they would put it back. I find this really annoying given that I have a 1.5mbps/680kbps internet connection, a good webcam, and a good PC configuration. What is Yahoo up to?
p.s. I would also be interested in any comments as to why Yahoo has a connection back to its webcam servers on port 5100 when I am running peer-to-peer (run NETSTAT command for confirmation when supercam P2P mode is running. |
