Super Webcam option

What happend to Super Webcam option?

As you may have noticed, there’s no longer a Super Webcam button in Yahoo! Messenger. It’s not that yahoo had taken this feature away or that you’ve lost functionality, but rather that yahoo made upgrades so this enhanced connection is now available to all users. Hence, no need to choose it – it’s always on for you.

You can control the frame rate a little with the slide bar in webcam preferences, move the slide between faster speed and better quality.

Frame rate estimates:

Best Quality - 1 frame a second
Faster Speed - 3 frames a second
Small Cam - 5 frames a second

Thank you Chris, for that useful piece of info.

I hadn't given it a thought (as I never used Super anyway) but u can bet that sooner or later I'd have wondered !

Sorry but this is not correct. The "super" webcam feature, which was known as supermode, was a direct 1 to 1 peer to peer connection where maximum fps (frames per second) would reach 10fps if the webcam setting was set to faster speed rather than better quality. That being said, Yahoo also included faster frame rates to regular webcam viewing without supermode as it is right now with maximum speeds reaching 3fps at the fastest speeds as all of you might have noticed. This is not however "supermode." The supermode feature has been removed as far as I know as it no longer gives you the option to do it whether 1 viewer is viewing or not. Just wanted to clarify.

Exactly WHAT is "not correct" Enigma ?
I understand and accept the original statement just fine.

(And perhaps you ought to tell Yahoo - Chris's post is a quote direct from them).

As fast as it is now it was even faster before when you connected one on one with someone who also had a broadband connection to connect via supermode. When they upgraded their servers that option was still there along with the current cam speed boost that you see right now. However they sinced removed the supermode option.

Me and my friends were not able to use supermode much before so I like 3fps. and once in a while before when the supercam turned on it hung yahoo. So I started setting it to never even tell me when it was available.

I've read about this sometime ago. Since they made super mode like this I never had more than 3.something fps. With or without firewall and other settings.
Anywho, for more control over my webcam I use VLC with Hamachi.
I know is not that easy to setup or handle, but I like being in control.

All yahoo! mean is the selection process to whether or not your connection can handle supercam mode is decided serverside not clientside.

If it's two dialup connections they may/may not switch it supermode to give each dialup user the direct connection benefite not connecting to a third party.

I think no matter the connection they will go thru a node of sorts to stop certain levels of packets allowing for breach of privacy.

This happened alongside the removel of the /goto command and the blocking/changing of most p2p packet handling on the yahoo network!

would like to add that if the person broadcasting the cam has it set to small size , then you the viewer will get a frame rate around 5 .

Yahoo didn't get rid of Super Webcam.

No where does it say that Super Webcam no longer exists.
