YIM uses all my resources

I have been using YIM for a long time without any problem. However, since about a week ago, it has started using all of my CPU power. I haven't installed any new programs on my computer. My computer is a Pentium IV 2.4 GHz with 512 M of RAM, running Windows XP SP2. My YIM version is 8.1.0.249. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling YIM but that hasn't helped. This problems is specific to only one Yahoo ID. Other Yahoo IDs work fine and do not freeze the computer. This problems happens if I use that specific user name on a different computer also. At this point I have no idea what's causing this problem. The only thing that I did recently was to add a few people to my buddy list. But I can't imagine that being the problem.

Disable the plugins feature, switch it to the classic skin, and remove anything from the main UI that you don't need.

Yahoo! messenger has always been a hog

With new features comes new overhead and messenger sucks yah cpu dry sometimes

there are smaller, less memory footprint alternatives to messenger but not so fruitful in the ways of the features the official messenger boosts.

The odd part about all this is that he says it only happens on ONE particular ID. That's telling me it's something OTHER then the version or messenger.

I would delete some of the temp files that are assocaited with yahoo for this name. For example. If you have your archives saved, copy them to a new location for safe keeping, then delete the archives. Also delete any offline messages.

Do you use any third party application? like ytunnel?

Also there is a file called ypagerlog.txt This stores everything you do in yahoo. Don't delete the file, just remove the contents of that file so the file is empty.

Then reopen yahoo and see if that helped any.

It definately could also be someone on your friends list that whenever they see you come online, they try to boot you. That will lag your system down as well. This is the most logical solution only because it's happening on one particular name and no others.
