When you said you turned on scripting, it didn't actually go on.
However having scripts on can also pose a security risk. Specially VBS But glad you got your problem sorted

I'm having the same problem and thought I should reply to this post instead of starting a new one.
I've tried all the suggestions here and none have worked. When I tried keloo05's suggestions I got an error that said: The module was loaded but the call toDllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005 What's even stranger is that this has happened twice to me. Both times yahoo messenger stops working on both of my computers ( at the same time, out of the blue after it as been working perfectly a moment prior). The only common link between them being that they are both on the same wireless network. (one is laptop and one a desktop) I run about multiple screen names at once for work related purposes and none of my names will work properly. They do not work on regular yahoo messenger, trillian, or pidgin. I have the exact same problem as the original poster. The first time it happened it seemed to fix itself and I'm not really sure how. Then it just happened again an hour ago and I have no clue how to resolve this. Any help would be appreciated. I have tried creating a new screename and that doesn't work either. |

Ann, welcome to BBBB! The fact that it happens at the exact same time on both computers, using different screen names certainly seems to point to an event related to your system. I just want to be clear that it's not Yahoo that stops working completely, but your text isn't visible once you hit send, and you are not receiving text back from your contacts. If the program itself is shutting down that could be something very different.
May I ask what router you use, what operating system you are on, what firewall you have installed on both machines, and which anti-virus and anti-spyware programs you are running? I'm thinking there may be some kind of a conflict somewhere. Also, do you have any other browsers installed? I might suggest running a HiJack This Log and you can PM it to me. Please copy and paste it in, do not send it as an attachment. I've generally found this problem is browser related and perhaps I will find something on the log that may point us in the right direction. Be patient, I'm pretty sure we can get this cleared up. It may take a few days and we may try things that don't work, but I'll give it my best shot. Can I also assume you have run a complete virus and spyware scan with current up to date definitions, and you have disabled any and all pop-up blockers in IE and all your toolbars? I'll look forward to hearing back from you. -Doris- |

Thanks for the responses.

Also, nothing obvious to me seems to prompt this. It will be working fine one moment and then not working the next. If fixed itself again last night, but then it happened all over again this morning. Sigh. I use a linksys router. I'm on Vista with the laptop, and Windows XP on the desktop. I never had this problem before I got the laptop, so I'm guessing that's where the problem lies. I had Norton on the laptop but I have removed it. (it didn't even catch half the stuff that adware does anyway) I don't have any virus protection on the desktop either. Mostly because they always seem to clash with some type of software I need to use. Both computers are scanned every day with adaware, which I hope is enough. I have enabled scripting, and turned off pop up blockers. I ran a Hijack This scan on the laptop and have pmd it to you. |

Ann - here's what I'd like you to do:
1. Rerun you HiJack This log and check the box next to the single item marked O13 and have HiJack remove it. 2. Go to Norton Removal Tool and run it. There are still traces of Norton on your machine. It embeds itself very deeply and this is the best way to get rid of it totally. You will have conflicts with other anti-virus programs if it's not completely removed. 3. Go to Filehippo and download the free AVG Antivirus program. I have never had it conflict with anything. You MUST have some firewall running at all times. Make sure to update the definitions and set it to update and scan daily. Run a complete system scan. It scares me to death that you have no virus protection on your machines. 4. Update your Adaware definitions and run a complete scan. 5. Download Advanced Windows Care and run it. The it will not only scan for spyware not detected by Adaware but will also tweak your system and help improve performance. I usually leave all the boxes checked and run a complete scan and fix. Be sure to allow it to back up your registry the first time you do it. 6. I'd also recommend running CCleaner for Windows, Applications, and Registry (again be sure to allow it to backup before fixing.) Since you're using a Linksys router it likely has a firewall built in. Please make sure your Windows Firewall is turned off. Go to Control Panel and look at your default programs. Please make sure IE is your default internet browser. In Yahoo Messenger, go to Messenger/Preferences/Connections. Make sure you are on no proxies, the internet connection and country are correct. Let me know after this massive cleanup if there is any improvement. I'd also take a look at your event logs and see if there's anything happening right at the time this occurs. -Doris- |

Similar problem
When trying to talk to one of my contacts I can see my own messages in the main window. I can also see that the contact is typing a message but they never appear.
The list of available facilities, with the exception of Plug-ins, is also greyed out and my photograph doesn't appear bottom right. ![]() The message window for my other contacts displays the full list of facilities and my photograph does appear - and I can read their messages too. ![]() Can anyone help please? I should have mentioned that I am using version 8.1.0.421 and XP2 + SP2 + critical updates. Last edited by Syncopator; 02-15-2008 at 05:39 PM. Reason: Added last line. |
