After I click Sign-In Yahoo Messenger Disappears?

I've been having this problem for a couple of days now. When I click sign-in yahoo just disappears from my screen. This is the first time I encountered this. I tried reinstalling yahoo but its still the same. A friend suggested that I install a Flash Player which I did but its still the same. Im using the latest version. 8.1 build 421

I also tried changing the connection preferences but its the same, yahoo just vanished like I exited from the program! Help please

I've seen twice in the forums now where this has been related to a virus/trojan/spyware. I would suggest a complete virus scan and a complete spyware scan with Ad-Aware and at least one other spyware scanner that have up to date definitions. I can't stress that part enough. If your definitions are not up to date, you will not get the protection you need, nor accurate results.

I would make sure you do a complete scan, do not choose any quick scan options that may be offered. I know this will likely take a bit of time, but it may take care of the problem. Also, when you do your scans, please make sure your broswer is closed. There are some spyware applications that cannot be detected if your browser is open.

Please let me know if this helps the problem. If not, we can go further, but there is a resonable chance this will take care of it.

Anyway, I've been doing research on this for a few days now and I found a fix. I installed Combofix and let it run. Since I am not a IT guru I went to that site (click on that link) to get some help me on how to run it without messing up my pc. . If you're new to this program, I suggest to read the istructions at least twice before running the program. Don't get too excited lol. It will pay off to read everything.

A lot of people will benefit from this fix. I know there are a lot more people who has this same problem since I've been reading on same issues other people have encountered.

My yahoo messenger is not working fine. Reinstalling it didn't work but ComboFix did its magic.

Rather *now working fine* LOL

So you did have a virus. Can you tell us which virus scanner didn't find it so we know what not to use?

Also, Combofix is not a comprehensive scanner. If I were you I would do a full scan with AVG Free before I felt comfortable using that computer for things like online shopping and banking again. If AVG finds anything, TechSpot has an excellent guide for malware removal: Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions - TechSpot OpenBoards

I agree with Wolverine's comments. You might also want to try the online scanners provided free of charge by most of the AV manufacturers, like F-Secure, Trend Micro, Sophos, Kaspersky, etc. I do that periodically just to make sure that my own AV didn't miss out on any viruses in my computer.
