Yahoo Messenger for Vista

Is anyone familiar with this version....

It is different than version 9

I believe it is a beta version also....

I doesn't have any IMviroments and a lot of other thing but it is the only version I can get to work on my Vista Ultimate computer.....

This is at the bottom of the download page...

Note: While testing this product, you can still use your current version of Yahoo! Messenger (8.1 or 9.0).

Hi cooter, welcome to BBB. Yes, Yahoo Messenger for Vista is a "work in progress" release. Have a look at this thread.

I'm using Vista Ultimate and YM 8.1.0.421 works well.

I tried YM 8.1.0.421 when I first downloaded Yahoo Messenger on my Vista Ultimate and it worked fine for about a week and then everytime I opened it I got the message that....There was a problem with YM and it has stopped working yada yada.....Vista issue.....

I tried compatibility mode...
I uninstalled and reinstalled several times....
Then I tried Version 9 beta and that 1 wouldn't even start....

Then I found Yahoo Messenger for Vista.....

YM for Vista works fine but it is pretty plain with very little extras at the moment.....

Cooter, if you're having trouble with YH shutting down I'd recommend a complete virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.

The current stable build works find on Vista as Philip said - I also use it. The Beta version is still missing a lot of key features and I'd suggest waiting for a more complete build before switching to it.

There have been a number of posts recently with regard to YH not starting properly, or shutting down unexpectedly. Overwhelmingly, these have been a result of viruses, trojans, and spyware. So my first suggestion is not to uninstall your program and try again, but to do some heavy duty cleanup of your machine. Always make sure you have the latest definitions, and then run an in depth virus scan, an Ad-Aware scan and preferably a second program such as Super Anti-Spyware to scan for problems.

If this doesn't help please let me know.

I have run numerous scans with both online and installed programs I have and my computer is Virus,Trojan and Malware free.....

To list a few scans that I have ran

Avast antivirus installed
SAS
Threat Fire
Comodo BOClean 4.25

Spyware Blaster

When I get the error it doesn't say why it stopped and no solution is found.....

Heh, Yahoo! Messenger For Vista in my opinion is a poor excuse of software. They're wasting their time developing something that won't even be near a state of completion when Windows 7 comes out in 2010, when they could be addressing issues with their own servers like boot exploits.

Now, I can run both v8.1.0.421 and v9.0.0.922 on Windows Vista. Just make sure you run either as an Administrator (via right click).

I had version 8.1.0.421 working for about a week and then everytime I tried to open it I got the message that it stopped working ......

Finally I uninstalled it and went with Yahoo Messenger for Vista....

It is plain but it works

After your reply I tried to install both version 8 & 9....

I clicked to install and got an error
So I tried Right Click
Run as Administrator and got the same error....

Here is a screen shot of it.....
