Yahoo MSGR on my new laptop stops receiving IM's after a few minutes, please help!!!!

Hello everyone,

I am new to this site, and I wanted to see if anyone could help me to figure out this problem that is driving me crazy with my new laptop. I have a new Sony VAIO laptop, with Windows Vista, and I have the new Yahoo Msgr, for Vista on it. It will let me sign in, I can begin chatting with a friend, and then all of a sudden, I do not receive any of my friends instant messages?? They however do receive my messages.

Sometimes, it will be delayed, and I will receive their messages from them all at once, and other times, I will never receive them at all?? I have to continuously log out and log back in for it to work. This happens everyday!!! I have a brand new Ativa wireless router, and Sony Vaio laptop. I am thinking it maybe something with the router, b/c I never had this problem when I was just messaging from my desktop. If anyone could give me some help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Sincerely,
LSUBEAST

Hello and welcome to BBB! Check and make sure any and all pop up blockers you can find are turned off. I know it makes surfing the net a bit more annoying on other sites, but for some reason, they seem to interfere with Yahoo Messenger working properly for some people.

I had the disappearing message problem for awhile and I tried it myself, and it worked for me. I've seen several other people it has worked for as well. This means not only your IE pop up blocker should be off, but also any on other toolbars such as Google or Yahoo etc you may have installed. All it takes is just one of them to make it go haywire sometimes.

Just to clarify - when you say you have YM for Vista - are you using the new Beta or the latest current build?

Let me know if turning the pop up blockers off helps. It's not guaranteed but it's worked in a number of cases.

Actually, if it does this with the normal Yahoo! Messenger v8.1 or v9.0 beta builds, it's most likely a Yahoo server issue.

I personally wouldn't recommend using Yahoo! Messenger For Vista since it's preview release and there's bound to be issues with it specifically (but I have to be realistic, there's Yahoo issues regardless what version of Messenger you're using).

ahoo MSGR on my new laptop stops receiving IM's after a few minutes, please help!!!!

I have exactly the same problem on my Laptop.

Yahoo ! Messenger 8.1.0.421 and MyYahoo module 8.0.0.1
Dell D620 (Latitude)
XP Professional Version 5.1

It obviously looks Yahoo server problem. The messenger is however uninterruptedly sending the messages and the other end is receiving the messages.

If i log off and log in, i am able to see all the missed messages.

It still sounds more like a server issue than anything else. I'd give it some time and see if it resolves. There's been alot going on with YM lately and they probably tried to fix one thing and broke another.

The problem may be the router. Some routers require opening certain ports fto enable inbound traffic for chat, phone and cam. Check the support site for your router for how to make these settings.

It's not the router, and telling people to mess with irrelevant settings is only likely to screw things up worse. This is a problem on Yahoo's side and there's nothing you can do to cause it or to fix it.

If it keeps up, the most effective remedy I can suggest is looking into another messenger system. AIM seems to have very few outages, and will be my next choice if Yahoo ever pisses me off enough to leave the friends I have here.
