Having problems with Yahoo messenger on other User accounts on my computer

So I installed norton 360 on my computer, so the messenger works fine on my user account, but on others, it seems like the script got erased or blocked. I have no idea wat is happening. Wat i did was, uninstalled norton 360 and went back to my old anti virus, and it still didnt work. I tried uninstalling and still didnt work. Any solution? Please help.

Hello and welcome to BBB! I take anything Norton off my machines as soon as I get them. I won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Once you install it, it worms it's way into all kinds of places and doesnt like to be erased with an uninstall.

Did you do a standard uninstall from Add/Remove programs? Or did you use the Norton Removal Tool on the Symantec website? Had you uninstalled your previous Anti-Virus before you installed the Norton? If so were you able to reinstall it with no errors popping up about Norton still being on your machine?

What operating system do you have (XP or Vista)? What Anti-Virus program did you switch back to? And what firewall are you using?

It will likely take a bit of digging to figure out what's causing the problem.

Norton 360 is a Symantec product - so it does not suprise me at all that you are still having trouble. As mentioned, Symantec/Norton buries itself throughout your machine and resists being deleted. I suspect a change made by Norton 360 was simply not "undone" by your uninstall. Given that you rolled back to a Symantec product for anti-virus, it's quite happy to allow those undone things to continue.

Norton 360 is an "all-in-one" product - so it was acting as your firewall. When you uninstalled it - what firewall did you go back to using? Anti-virus programs are typically NOT what blocks your access to instant messaging programs - it's the firewall configuration. If Symantec/Norton is still on your machine as your firewall, it's likely you need to reconfigure it to allow access for all the accounts. If you also have Windows Firewall enabled - they are probably fighting over who has control of what. So - again I must ask what firewall are you using?

In the mean time, it wouldn't hurt to check yours and your user accounts to make sure in Yahoo Messenger your preferences for each account is set to "No Proxies" and has the correct connection and county listed.
