Pingbox shows offline

Hi everyone, I need some help. I dl the new version of messenger and added a pingbox to my website. Ive done this many times but it still says *offline* in my site. I have gone to the Pingbox FAQ and did what I was told to do, but still I am offline. I am visible in yahoo messenger and my website is open at the time. Any ideas out there?

I noticed that it takes a few minutes for mine to register I'm actually there on my page. (Same goes for when I leave - probably 5 minutes after closing the page my YH actually registers me as gone.) But I've not had a problem with actually showing offline when I test it. I just have to be patient for it to notice I'm there.

Does the pingbox actually show up ok? There are no other problems other than the online/offline part of it? Do you have the Pingbox Group now showing on your YH messenger contact list?

I have a thing about being HTML compliant on my site. So, I actually strip alot of extra crud from most scripts. If you want to PM me the URL where your Pingbox is, I'll take a look and see if I might be able see any problems in the script itself. I can't make any promises but I'm happy to look at it for you.

My pingbox

Hi PatnDoris,

Yes the ping box shows up perfectly, and I have the listing in my messenger list. Ive had it on much longer than 5 minutes and it never came online.

I guess I cant post my site until ive posted 10 times so if you add .biz on the end of what you see above, you will find it.

Thanks

Right click on the Pingbox group on your contact list (it'll be at the bottom) and make sure Pingbox is On is selected.

Kudos to Yahoo - I couldn't remember if I'd had to clean up their code or not but it's actually really good for Pingbox. The only thing I did different was take out the "/" at the end of the different sections and my object id is just pingbox (but I don't think that makes any difference as long as the value is in quotes like it is).

Try what Ven0m said and see if that makes a difference. I have noticed a few times when it hasn't worked quite right but it's always just been for a short time and has always been ok the next time I've gone to it.

Let us know if checking the setting on the contact list works or not.

I guess I dont get to ping!!

Hi there,
I have found that with Vista, my pc is finicky, and sometimes things just dont work. I had to uninstall the new messenger, and reload 8.1. It kept crashing all the time, and I had to reboot every time I closed it out. I did check with yahoo and they say I can still have a pingbox with 8.1, but it wont show up in my contact list anymore. But.. when I was using the new version, I did have the pingbox clicked to ON. Thanks for your help, I guess I will have to remain pingless ... lol

Don't give up hope! I have Vista as does a friend of mine and we both have Pingbox up and working.

I also have a Yahoo online/offline indicator on my contact page. It might be worth trying something like that just to see if you can get it to register you as online. I happen to have mine on the same page as the Pingbox. But the typical on/offline displays are not related to Pingbox or the latest version of messenger. It might help to see if the problem is account related or Pingbox related with regard to web presence.

That's odd because I have Vista too and Messenger v9.0 works better on it than v8.1 does. You can't use Pingbox with v8.1, it's a v9.0 feature.

Also, I'm running Vista tweaked slightly (UAC off and using hidden administrator account). =P

Well then I just dont get it. It isnt like I am some pc dummy, and yet yahoo messenger has gotten my goat. I LOVED version 9, but I had many issues. If I was chatting, and put someone in the iggy bin OR viewed a profile, my voice went down, and I had to click the voice button off and on. Then, when I closed out yahoo, the icon stayed on the tray and even though I was signed out, I could not open yahoo again, until I rebooted my pc. That got to be a bother. I am running ytunnel as well.

I went to yahoo help and they said the pingbox worked with version 8.1. I guess I will just delete the box from my site, and pretend I never tried to do it. Vista wins again!!

My UAC is off too, but my other friend with a Pingbox has it on - so I don't think that could make a big difference.

It's a very odd problem. Just wondering how long ago you installed Pingbox on your site. I'm wondering if it could just be a server issue. Have you been able to try with someone else hitting your page instead of yourself?

If that was the only problem with version 9 - then if you want to resolve the problem you'll have to move back up to it so you can at least view the Pingbox as a group on your contact list. That's a choice only you can make.

Let is know if you decide to do that and if we can be of any further help.
