Seeking Assistance with Two YIM Issues

I am experiencing two problems with YIM. I hope that someone could please give me guidance on how to remedy these issues as Yahoo won’t even reply to my inquiries.

1. Upon YIM start-up, a "System, at: XXX AM/PM" message box appears stating "Your contact is using Windows Live™ (MSN) Messenger, and wants to add you to his or her Messenger List. To start sharing instant messages, you'll first need to get the latest Yahoo! Messenger with Voice at messenger.yahoo.com/download.php." Without downloading the latest YIM, is there any way in which I can stop this box from appearing? It's really annoying.

2. At times an email is sent to me while I am logged into YIM and YIM alerts me instantly of receiving this message by a small box first appearing along the lower right of my screen and then a larger email notification box appearing in the middle of my screen. However, when I click on the link to take me to my email inbox, I am taken to a separate window in which I am informed that the page (i.e. my personal yahoo email page that lists my inbox, sent, draft, etc. folders on the left side of the screen) does not exist. How can I ensure that I am actually taken to my yahoo email page upon learning that I have received a new email while logged into YIM? I am using the latest Microsoft Explorer browser.

For reference, I am using an older YIM version – possibly version 6.1922. XP is my computer's OS.

Any help with either topic is most appreciated.

Hello and welcome to BBB! I'm afraid I can't answer the questions for you although I'm sure Ven0m will be along shortly and may have some information for you.

I wanted to ask if there is a reason you've not upgraded to a more recent version of Yahoo IM? Generally bugs are fixed as well as enhancements added. The latest version is stable, and certainly the previous version worked quite well.

I'm fairly sure that interoperability was not available in the version you have so the MSN/WLM nag you are getting probably will be something you are not able to resolve without an upgrade. However, let's see if the gurus have any suggestions.

Yahoo! Messenger v6.0 isn't supported anymore nor does it use the required YMSG14 or above protocol needed to chat with Windows Live Messenger users. Because of that you'll probably have to download the newest Yahoo! Messenger build to deny the add buddy request from the WLM ID.

As per the e-mail problem it's probably not redirecting correctly. This is most likely a v6.0 issue as well.

As a side note I'd like to point out that Yahoo! Messenger 6.0's days are numbered because of the protocol it uses is old and outdated and on the chopping block. Eventually it won't log in anymore and require you to use a newer Yahoo! Messenger build (7.x until support for it is discontinued server-side).

Yahoo IM Version 6

I had figured that there is nothing that can be done and I thank you both (patndoris and Ven0m) for your thoughts. Being a "simple" person, I tend to use things until they go caput - when support for version 6 ends, only then switch to version 7. (The YahooHelper option on version 6 doesn't work, so it can't be too much longer before the entire outfit is terminated.) I only use YIM to chat and don't have any use for the voice and entertainment features that consume computer memory; I wish a bare-bones edition of YIM would remain available - YIM version 9 is 14.4 MB while version 6 is 4.5 MB - that's a significant difference to those whom don't care for hoops and whistles.
