Trillian (Basic) 3.1 + Yahoo! Messenger = No Good

Hi all, I browsed the forums for a while and came across a few similar instances where users are having difficulties connecting to Yahoo! Messenger...

I didn't see whether or not they were able to connect to their Yahoo! Inbox through a web browser using either Firefox or IE.

I am able to successfully connect to my Yahoo! Inbox through both IE and Firefox, however, I am not able to connect to the Yahoo! Messenger service through Trillian.

I am running Trillian Basic 3 (3.1)

I am able to connect to AIM, ICQ, and MSN services successfully, however, when I try connecting to the Yahoo! Messenger service I get the following errors:

[13:04] *** Error: Invalid User Account. Make sure you've typed your username correctly and try again.
[13:11] *** Reconnecting to Yahoo! as "iambombrun@yahoo.com"
[13:11] *** Will attempt 10 connections with 60 second intervals.
[13:11] *** Connecting to Yahoo! as "iambombrun@yahoo.com", attempt 1.
[13:11] *** Error: Invalid User Account. Make sure you've typed your username correctly and try again.

I wanted to add ...

I went ahead and logged into Yahoo! through IE, downloaded and installed Yahoo! Messenger, and it connected just fine...

So, I logged off, and uninstalled Yahoo! Messenger immediately.

(due to the fact Trillian uses 11MB of resources and Yahoo! Messenger uses 54MB)

This is probably because of that version of Trillian using older servers/protocols, which Yahoo is in the process of getting rid of. What version of Yahoo! Messenger are you using? My version uses WAY less than what Trillian uses.

I'd suggest using Trillian Astra or Pidgin at this point.

Trillian Astra is connecting just fine to the YH servers. Give it a try.

That's because they just recently updated it and updated the protocol used to YMSG16 so it can use the SP1 and AC4 servers.

The MUD servers the older Trillian probably used are dead now.
