Screenname?
Hi: I am new here and new to Yahoo IM. I have become very confused and hope someone can help. I have the 3.0 beta Yahoo. I have a Mac and I believe that was the only option I was offered.
I have applied for an online job which requires Yahoo IM for communication. I have been asked t put a certain prefix in front of my Yahoo name for identification purposes for the company to email me. I am assuming this is my screen name not my ID, correct? I can't imagine them making me change my ID. I've read where I can have up to 6 or 7 (not sure) screen names. Is that true? Because I surely wouldn't want to use the work name for my friends. Anyway, I've read where all I have to do to create a screen name is to go to my contacts, put my screen name in and click submit. Is that true? What about the other info in the contact boxes? Don't I need to put in my yahoo email address to make sure I get the IM's? This is so confusing to me. The name that pops up when Y. Messenger pops up each day is the prefix to my email account. That would be my ID not my screen name, correct? I know this sounds silly but I can't make heads nor tails out of the directions on the Yahoo Messenger Website. It's no help at all. I guess that's why you guys are here. Any help would be appreciated. |

Screen name and ID are the same thing. You can have as many IDs as you want - just keep signing up for new ones.

Screenname again
Thanks for yhour response. I need more clarificaiton. Yahoo says you can only sign up for mail twice, so that leaves out as many times as I want to. (Though I do have 3 accounts.
) Anyway, the name on my yahoo window that shows up, that's what I use? It's not on the screen, it's above it. I've been told to just go to contacts and make up a screen name. I did that but it doesn't show up on the window. I really need more input to clarify this. Thanks. |

Well, you can sign up for unlimited accounts - they won't be linked. You can create an alias ID on the main ID and activate mail for it.

Hi:
I appreciate you trying to help me. So, I don't mean to sound rude, but your short answers just aren't helping. I need to be walked thru it like a first grader. If I sign up for another messenger account, do I have to download messenger again? If not, how do I sign up for another account? I have no idea what you mean by I can create an alias ID on the main ID and activate mail for it. For one, I don't want to activate mail. I just want to make another screen name to satisfy my employer. I need someone with a lot of patience to explain this to me and answer all my questions. I'm sure it's a simple process but so far, I'm confused. Thanks. Rita |

Screen name
OK. That's what I wanted to know!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was automatically logged in, so didn't see that option.
I noticed when I got my new ID, it got rid of the original one. Is there a way to get another ID without losing the one I had? Just download again or is there a simpler way? I'm getting closer. After that question is answered, I am set. Thanks again. Rita |
