How can I appear offline to contacts?

I hope you can help me with an answer to my question.

I would like to be able to appear offline to certain or all contacts in Yahoo Messenger - even if I have the program open.

I know that I can chose "invisible to everyone" with the status button, but on sites like Detect invisible users on Yahoo Messenger | Invisible Detector | Yahoo Messenger Scanner | Invisible Checker where you can check the ym-status of people - I will still appear as "invisible" and not "offline".

I know that several of my friends are able to appear "offline", even if I know they are online. If I then check their status on Detect invisible users on Yahoo Messenger | Invisible Detector | Yahoo Messenger Scanner | Invisible Checker it says "offline" - even though I am chatting with them in the same moment as I check their status on Detect invisible users on Yahoo Messenger | Invisible Detector | Yahoo Messenger Scanner | Invisible Checker.

Do they have some kind of separate software installed?

It´s not because I´m paranoid, that I would like to be able to appear offline when I have the program open. I would just like to be able to chat with someone without hearing from other ym-contacts afterwards why I did not answer their messages - even though they could see that I was just "invisible" and not offline.

This depends on what version of Messenger they're on and which protocol version they're using, as these status sites use various methods to scan your status.

Try older versions of messenger with invisible on and the don't allow websites to see my status ticked in preferences.
