Webcams are a fascinating way to travel the globe... without ever leaving your desk! Here you'll learn where to find webcams, how people are using them, and if you'd like, how you can create your very own webcam.
So what can you use a webcam for? Well, of course you can use it to create a webcam on a website (like the BigBlueBall webcam). Some people use them for surveillance or security as well. I've also used mine for video conferencing, also known as video chat.
| Update: The BigBlueBall webcam used to use CoffeeCup WebCam 3.0. I've since switched to Argus WebCam by 545 Studios. It actually works better and provides more control (and it's skinnable!). At home I typically use a Logitech QuickCam Pro, and in the office the Intel Deluxe USB Camera. When it's on, it auto-refreshes once every 30 seconds. |
